I use pencil for everyday makeup, and if I'm getting really dressed up, I'll use pencil and then put a thin line of liquid as close to the lash as I can get. It makes it more defined looking without being trashy. I think if you only use liquid it looks really trashy... personally. But I never put it on the bottom eyelid. I only use pencil on the bottom and never a whole lot, cause it can make your eyes look really small.
